Armchair Webmaster - Build Your Own Web Site

Step 1 - Choose Your Domain Name

www.koolwebhosting.com is where you go to choose your domain name.

Your domain name can be anything you want. It is just fine to have multiple domain names, and they can even go to the same web site if you want (and yes, we will show you how to do that also!).
If you have a business it is not a bad idea to get the domain name of your business (xyzcompany.com), and a domain name that describes your products. For instance, when Intra-Designs first started, we grabbed www.intra-designs.com. We were located in Puyallup, WA at that time, so we also grabbed www.puyallupwebdesign.com.
Don't worry too much about the domain name, you can always add a new one, and since they cost as little as $8 per year, worst case scenario just don't renew it after the first year is up.
Fill in the information below to see if your domain name is available:

Here are some tips on choosing the right domain name for you (as well as de-bunking some myths):

1. Stick with “.com”Bunk. This may have been a good thing 10 years ago, but these days it doesn't matter. In fact, if you want to save money, you can usually get .info or .us domain names for as little as $4 the first year.
2. One Possible Spelling – Try to find a domain name that only has one possible spelling. Make it easy for your web site visitors to remember by choosing a domain name without a confusing spelling.
3. Shorter is BetterBunk. Most people do not type in a domain name anymore, they search for it. If you have a short, cryptic domain name (such as www.kwhost.com) chances are people will not remember it. Worse, however, is that the search engines have no idea what that is. www.koolwebhosting.com describes exactly what the web site is, however. It is web hosting done the Kool way :). Remember, though, you can have more than one domain name. You might have a shorter domain name to put onto your business cards and a longer one for the search engines to find.
4. Find out if your name is available - This can be important. You don't want to start designing an online business model only to find out the domain name you want is already taken.

Okay, now that you have your domain name, you are ready for step 2!
